The latest Air Quality Life Index (AQLI) by the Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago gives hope that the life expectancy of Indonesians can be improved through improved air quality. In the report, air pollution decreases the average life expectancy of Indonesians by around 1.2 years.

Improved air quality can be achieved by making various improvements to air quality management regulations or law enforcement. This can be a consideration for policy makers to measure the benefits and impacts on the environment and humans or economic growth.

The report, compiled by the Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago (EPIC), is titled Indonesia’s Water Quality and Its Impact on Life Expectancy (update March 2019). The researchers compared the air quality of regions in Indonesia with the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO) regarding fine particulate pollution (PM2,5).

“Indonesia has taken important steps to reduce pollution. When has moved forward, taking into account all costs and benefits of the policy before setting and make sure all the limitations monitored and enforced carefully in a long way towards improving air quality, “said Michael Greenstone, Milton Friedman Professor in Economics from the University of Chicago…
